The Chandigarh Administration has decided to appoint a conservation architect for its UNESCO World heritage site Capitol Complex. This includes their three key buildings: Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and Punjab and Haryana High Court, besides an open-hand monument and martyrs´ memorial raised in remembrance of the martyrs of India´s freedom struggle.

It is designed by Steelcase and Michael Young, a British professional designer and is made of carbon fibre and weighs less than 5 pounds (2.5 kgs) and can support 135 kgs of weight and is available in a range of colours.

The most striking feature of the project is the highlighted wall behind the seating area, which is a customised wallpaper in black, designed carefully to bring out the soberness of the theme, while enhancing the colour gravity of the adjacent brown and mint green walls.
