One of the key takeaways from the 9th CW Architect and Builder Awards - the theme was InnoVision - was that Innovation should be put to good use in building a better India. At the event which saw the country´s architectural stalwarts congregate, debate and celebrate, the air was rent with excitement and bonhomie as three hundred industry professionals cheered the winners. The event was the culmination of six months of arduous work and came together very beautifully, with builders and architects vowing to strive towards loftier ideals. Contributing to this was Devika Devaiah, author of the book Orbit Shifting Innovation, whose rousing address received a standing ovation. Over the years through our interaction with architects, we know that the need to look for products is constant, to know about new launches is pertinent and the need for a comprehensive solution, very welcome. This led us to make our own innovative contribution: We launched DEZIGNGENIE, a website consisting of 20,000 products across 50 categories and 175 brands, and counting. The site is being tested and will be completely functional by October. Please check it and share your experience with us.
Along with the excitement of the awards which is evident in the photofeature, we have profiled our winning architects, who fall into the Admired and Innovisionary categories. Read about them and know how they were selected.
The theme InnoVision fueled us to relook at creative ideas across the world, across categories. Like concrete used innovatively by Architectural firm Kanva, who experimented with concrete by photoengraving on it while Berlin-based Wolf Architekten have used light-transmitting concrete to bring a fatade to life. The effects are stunning! Similarly product designers have been experimenting with resin to create fabulous products. Our Focus Story showcases door knobs and furniture made with resin. Other products we honed in on were a two layered washbasin, a switch that looks like a pianoà.designers across the world are innovating and how!
Back home, DSP Architects have designed the Microsoft office in Gurgaon with a Guru-cool theme that adds colour and an element of fun to the space. Parekh Ankit Anil Architects have designed a modern mansion for their clients in Valsad with a fusion of traditional and contemporary design elements. And a restaurant with an aviation theme on the Delhi-Jaipur highway innovates with material and design to create some stunning dTcor elements. With 2,000 birds that appear to be in flight flocking its fatade and a dining bench that can be raised from the floor lending a feeling of being in flight, the Skywaltz cafe is indeed innovation in design and concept!
It was invigorating to meet so many of you at the awards. Thank you for being there, supporting us and lauding our efforts. You can go to our website www.cwinteriors.in to see the event, and clips of the winners and speakers.
