Celebrating imperfection

To celebrate its 40th year, the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts has organised the first Istanbul Design Biennial. The Biennial to be held over a span of two months from October 13 to December 12, 2012 covers all fields of design with over 100 projects by nearly 300 designers and architects from 46 countries in two different exhibition venues. Curated by Architect Emre Arolat and Joseph Grima the theme for the event is "Imperfection". The exhibition 'Musibet' is presented under two headlines 'Transformation' and 'Anti-Context' where the former questions urban trans¬°formation, social housing projects and related tension plaguing Istanbul of late. The latter debates on changes in new technologies, architectural and fashion design practices around the world. The other exhibition "Adhocracy" surveys the contemporary design scene in the wake of a wave of social and technological revolutions that have transformed the realm of design in recent years.
