Signature Style

Mumbai's cultural melting pot gets richer with the addition of Amadeus, a restaurant that serves Spanish cuisine and an international design ambience.

From Farrokh Khambata - the man who gave the city of Mumbai Joss, the Far Eastern cuisine restaurant - comes another eatery that promises to pamper its culinary aesthetes. Amadeus, his latest restaurant at the National Centre of Performing Arts, brings Spanish cuisine to Mumbai's shores. Mindful of the role that ambience plays in enhancing the eating-out experience, Amadeus is dressed in a stylish, timeless interior design by Neterwala and Aibara Interior Architects.

Contemporary mould

Amadeus being the first restaurant in their design kitty, the designers have worked diligently to not just create a stunning décor but also to build in comfort and smart acoustics. The design approach is contemporary. Various areas in the restaurant - the lounge bar, dining and private dining - are clearly defined, with each having a distinct identity. Yet they flow seamlessly into each other thanks to the ceiling, which works as the unifying factor in the design. The designers have taken advantage of the existing large beams and created smaller angular cross beams to create a drama that binds the various spaces together.

Modern masterpiece

"We wanted the customers to feel the warmth, sophistication and elegance of the surroundings when they walked into Amadeus. So, we created an urban, chic atmosphere with contemporary elegance that can transfer you to any city in the world," says Phirosa Neterwala, Partner, Neterwala and Aibara Interior Architects, who executed the project assisted by Zia Shroff. One of the distinct elements of design in the restaurant include the stunning backdrop to the bar created with solid wood logs; the logs complement the panel of graphic prints that line the entrance walls. The bar is a unique masterpiece created with individually compressed glass bottles, up lit against an 18 ft long section of curved glass. The bar stools are designed to appear like falling rings.

With its understated and timeless décor, Amadeus now sits proudly in the heart of the art and culture of  the city.
