Buzz (July 2013)

The Raj Bhavan in Kolkata is going to get a healing touch with its restoration been allotted the required budget. The doctor for this one is going to be none other than Architect Abha Narain Lambah!

Frank Gehry has been appointed to design the new office for the engineering team of Facebook in New York! For Gehry, this must be a cakewalk considering he is also designing Facebook's new Silicon Valley headquarters, set to be the largest open-plan office in the world.

Godhra architect Sanjay Doshi is in deep trouble after a building, designed by him, which had approval for a ground-plus-one structure collapsed because it was being constructed as a ground-plus-three building, that too with inferior materials. The collapse has caused the death of wife and daughter of the watchman of the site.

Abha Narain Lambah surely seems to be in the government's good books because she is also the consulting restoration architect for the Mumbai Metro Rail heritage line for Colaba-Bandra-Seepz corridor being planned on the lines of the proposed line in Delhi from Kashmere Gate to Central Secretariat, which recently got NOC from National Monuments Authority. From Cuffe Parade to Bandra, the Rs 24,500-crore Metro Line-3 with 27 underground stations will pass under heritage structures such as CST (a UNESCO site), Flora Fountain and the art deco of Marine Drive heritage precinct.

The Nalanda University at Bihar, being designed by BV Doshi and Rajeev Kathpalia of Vastu Shilpa Consultants, is already breaking records! It is going to be the first building in the country to use the desiccant enhanced evaporative (Devap) air-cooling system which uses 'desiccant' material that removes moisture from the air using heat, as also evaporative technologies that bring about cooling by using up to 90 per cent less energy than conventional means.
