Media Mantra

The office of a leading media firm in Delhi boasts of an industrial chic design.

Designing the interiors for a media firm means not only matching up with its creative quotient but also its casual way of working. As Manish Gulati, Principal Architect, MOFA puts it, ´An office that is usually buzzing with creative ideas, colours, fonts and stories, required a wide canvas, an open platform where each volatile idea gets captured, thereby nourishing a suitable creative environment.´

Located on a site that had a great height to play with; the architects opted for an open plan keeping the democratic nature of the office in mind. A mezzanine was planned at the end of the office to house the accounts section on top and a small ideation room with two executive cabins below. The ideation room has a wall with customised wallpaper with random but powerful words written on it, which attempt to encourage people to think creative and out-of-the-box! The square table is oriented towards the wall, making it the focal point of the room. The design language in the cabins is kept simple with industrial overtones through the use of exposed steel structure and all the service ducts and conduits.

Light it up
The overall white and neutral colour scheme is broken at the workstations level, through the use of synchronised upholstery colours. The two types of lighting include white linear lights for appropriate lux levels at every workstation and the large industrial reflectors hovering over the space like a cloud. The warm yellow light provides cosiness to this otherwise large open space. Large green light reflectors were used as metaphors depicting the idea bulbs hanging over the heads. Green, the corporate colour of the firm, is dominant in the overall colour palette while bursts of other colours are seen in the soft boards on the work desks. ´Since the office offers flexible seating arrangements, the colours help provide identity to the desks. The employee can choose the colour of his choice according to his mood,´ says Gulati.

An open riser staircase with wooden treads takes one to the accounts section on the mezzanine. The staircase in front of the ideation room lends privacy to the idea generators at work inside. Near the entrance there is also a multifunctional reception desk made with concrete-look and green laminate combined to create a random pattern.

With structural steel, exposed brickwork, porcelain tiles, laminate flooring, glass, wall¡paper as the dominant materials, this office screams flexibility from every angle!
