Fairs and Lovely

Expos, exhibitions and fairs are the best places to get your hands on unique designs and invaluable pieces. From China to Miami, and from posh luxuries to locally curated masterpieces, the number of events housing such is ever increasing. We list a few festivals that every architect and interior designer must visit for a life-changing global experience.

1. IMM Cologne
It’s the start of the new year and you want to explore and experience the different interior design trends of the year? Head to Germany’s IMM Cologne fest, the first fair of the year, get a chance to be the first ones to pick up pieces by illustrated interior designers from over 50 countries.

2. Clerkenwell Design Week
The land of red buses and royal residents plays host to UK’s largest exhibition of furniture and lighting brands in the union. The summer shopping fest Clerkenwell Design Week is held every May in London and should definitely be marked special on your calendar.

3. IFFS - International Furniture Fair Singapore
Merlion and merchandising under one roof, IFFS is one of the largest Asian fairs for anyone in the interiors and designing field. This mid-March mayhem is the main market for traditional home decor pieces from the hidden East.

4. DMY International Design Festival
Only a city divided for 30 years can know the true meaning of togetherness. The DMY International Design Festival of Berlin focuses on different themes each June and encourages all planners and designers to look at the bigger picture of life, peace and co-operation for their works.

5. Design Indaba Expo
The largest fair in the southern hemisphere and the best for homegrown, hand-curated African brands and works, Design Indaba Expo held in Cape Town is a must-see. Plan your vacation in this beautiful city in the months of February or March to catch this week long melange of design, fashion and media.

6. Furniture China
China does not produce only myopic materialistic items, it houses some of the most talented designers of the world too. Furniture China, the largest Asian expo is a cultural melting pot. Every September the highest number of buyers and sellers from the East and West exchange products, cultures and values in this meticulously planned bonanza.

7. London Design Festival
If pronounced projects and unbridled creativity are your ideas of prized pieced, the London Design Festival is where you should be in September. Known for letting the designers paint a new face for the city, the LDF is much like the Milan fest, sans the number.

8. Paris Design Week
Eat, pray, love, and design at the annual Paris Design Week’s extensive array of retail and hospitality based offerings. One not only for the eyes, but for the mind too, this expo is famous for it’s debates, open installations and and panel discussions mapped through the entire city.

9. Light + Building
A visit to Frankfurt’s finest biennial fest, Light + Building, is imperative for a connoisseur of electrical engineering and design. With a footfall higher than any building automation and energy efficiency themed expo, this one leads in terms of standards and style.

10. Design Miami
Sand and surf meet structures in December scheduled Design Miami, Florida’s luxury spectacle. With a mid-year repeat in the cheese-laden Swiss mountains, the expo hosts a number of high end brands and designers of art, fashion and interiors items.

11. Salone Del Mobile
A list of top interiors and architecture fairs is incomplete without a mention of the Milan hosted Salone Del Mobile. Held each year in the month of April, this global extravaganza sees the largest number of buyers and sellers from across the continents launching their best and most innovative lines of interior products.
