Stylish Elegance

Surat-based Co.lab Design Studio gives this office an international appeal.
Designed for a client who is expanding from yarn business to real estate, this office by Co.lab Design Studio is a beautiful example of elegance-meets-style. Using the finest materials, yet keeping the material palette to a minimum, architects Hansika Jain and Vikram Bhatt have managed to address the client´s requirement of an exclusive design that oozes style without being too flashy. ´Being in the business of textile trading and real estate, the client was well-travelled and aware of international design trends. He had a keen interest in furniture, and thus we worked with his inputs for each and every piece of furniture that was used in the design,´ shares Jain.

The available space has been primarily divided into four sections across two floors. The lower floor comprises the work and meeting areas while the upper floor has been segregated into a cafeteria and recreation area. All the four spaces are planned around a central double height reception area. The Director´s cabins are located in the south west corner keeping the ´vastu´ of the place in mind.

Private spaces
There are two Director´s cabins for the father and son duo. The father´s cabin is simple with straight lines. Walter Knoll furniture is complemented with the famous Taliesin lamp by Frank Llyod Wright and leather panelling is used to create focus walls, which break the monotony of wood and stone. The bronze Armani floor completes the story.

The son´s cabin exudes youth and vibrancy with Burma Teak wood panels clad on the wall in an undulating pattern. This gives a sense of movement and playfulness. The double height reception, with the Cosmic Angel chandelier from Artemedia lends a sense of grandeur. The work space starts with a staff area and a manager cabin with a central passage leading towards the Director´s cabin at the other end. The ManagTrs cabin is like a glass cube lending him privacy, while allowing easy access. There is an ante room attached to the main director cabin for private meetings, which is also accessible directly as a private waiting area for the Director.

Semi-private areas
The meeting area has a conference room and two other rooms equipped with state-of-the-art communication capabilities. The meeting room tables from Martex have glass legs lending a cantilevered feeling to them. The cafeteria on the upper level is connected to the open air recreation area, providing the staff a space to relax and unwind.

The central passage leading to the Director´s cabin comprises three beautifully designed leather panels, separating the staff and circulation areas. It symbolises the client´s business journey, from textiles to real estate. The panels have an abstract mosaic art, depicting a city´s skyline weaved from fabric and leather hexagons. A perfect blend of European furniture, indigenous workmanship and a lot of emphasis on detailing, this office offers an impressive working space for the owners and employees alike.
