The new Legoland Hotel in Florida designed by Merlin´s Magic Making is a paradise of Lego lovers.
A five-storey building housing 152 rooms, the Legoland Hotel in Florida is designed by Merlin´s Magic Making, the creative heart of Merlin Entertainments to bring children´s imaginations to life. Hotel guests are greeted by a Lego dragon. There are more than 2,000 Lego models throughout the hotel, which are made with more than two million Lego® bricks. The floor plan of the hotel is very open with a centre that is lined with a Lego brick pit. There is a Lego Castle play area, too, with a restaurant on either side.
The hotel was designed and created with kids in mind. From its interactive features to the kid-height peep holes and buffet station at the Bricks Restaurant, the hotel has details that provide children with a unique experience. Each room includes a thematic area for kids, complete with a flat panel TV. ´We didn´t set out to create a hotel that would be ´kid-friendly.' We set out to make a hotel that was created for kids, with thoughtful amenities and conveniences for parents, that would provide the ultimate Lego experience,´ share the designers.
World of Lego
The public areas are designed to encourage creativity and exploration. On the lobby level the hotel features two pits filled with Lego bricks (and another with Duplo bricks) as well as a castle and pirate ship play area. The wall behind the reception desk is created with more than 5,000 LEGO Minifigures. The Castle Play area is based on the Lego Kingdom and Pirates lines and features a pirate ship and an interactive castle surrounded by a Lego filled moat. The interactive play areas are bordered by a full service Bricks restaurant featuring healthy food options and a Skyline Lounge that ser¡ves snacks and features a Lego skyline with more than 20 humorous scenes designed by the Park´s Master Model Builders.
Building around themes
The rooms are designed according to four themes: Adventure, Kingdom, Pirate and Lego Friends. That theme is carried throughout the room including the carpet, walls and bedding. All children´s sleeping areas include a bunk bed with a trundle bed. There are also at least eight Lego models in every room.
The hotel´s family pool looks out to the historic Lake Eloise, and features giant floating Lego bricks that kids can build and use in the pool. There is also an interactive elevator that features pulsating lights, music, ´lava´ tiles, rotating mirror ball and sound effects that announce the arrival on each floor.
A visit to the hotel is sure to be a dream come true for the little ones. After all, which kid would want to leave a Lego-themed castle.
