Creative craft

A specialist in furniture design, Delhi-based Punam Kalra draws glamour to this home with her perky designs and creative use of material.

Punam Kalra of I'M Centre of Applied Arts has constantly striven to create something new and refreshing, and this home designed by her is another reflection of this effort. Meditative in nature and an extension of its users' personality, a thread of uniqueness runs through the house.

A gorgeous large chandelier in the double-height living area is the highlight of the house with its rare sculptural appeal; a fabulous red gown makes the bed of the daughter's room, quirky and singular in its appeal. "The complete colour scheme is in silver greys, whites and charcoal finishes with splashes of colour thrown in to break the silence at different intervals," says Kalra.

Colour Splash

Fun takes over in the son's room where, red shelves add a perky touch. The hand painted, arty backdrop in the lobby area, colorful hot pink chairs on the bar and last but not the least, the bright carpets designed by Kalra herself do wonders for uplifting the design of the house. The accessories are done in shining stainless steel, adding an element of glamour.

Designer touch

The designer's own favourite is the guest bedroom, furnished with a low bed made with original sleeper wood and a small seating area in 'Zen' style. The lift lobby has a tree of life with a turquoise silk backing adorning its wall. The black couch in the living room stands out in the otherwise white dominated decor, while the Valvhromet HDF from Portugal (generally used for partitions) used on the bar counter beautifully compliments the design. The master bedroom has an upholstered bed made with a snake scale textured fabric, complimented with a gorgeous couch made in the Savannah fabric from Atmosphere.

Great choice of material and creativity expressed through furniture give this house its uniqueness, personality and aesthetics.
