Inspirations need not always come from the past; for Sebatian Hernmer, Corbusier´s modern city of Chandigarh also sparks an idea...
This chair reminds one of the old manjis found in homes in Punjab. To see them in a collection of lounge chairs in solid wood designed by German designer Sebastian Herkner is heart warming. Inspired greatly by India´s culture, colours and typical crafts and traditions, and influenced by the projects of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in Chandigarh, Herkner´s creation The Unam series features clean lines and is made up of simple wooden elements that recall traditional wooden constructions. These highly comfortable chairs are available in both woven and covered finishes, and make a strong statement in linear wood. The construction is architectural, with the seating elements and the back rest exposed. Solid ash wood is used for the indoor chair and Iroko wood for the outdoor one.
The backrest is done with leather or rope braiding.
