IA Interior Architects give the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco a design that suits the company´s innovative, playful and fiercely independent personality!

The li´l birdie of Twitter has been spreading its wings and establishing itself firmly in countries around the world; the social networking site´s new global headquarters, though, are located in San Francisco, on the seventh and ninth floor of the Market Square Complex. Twitter´s office is an assured blend of casual, playful elements and an efficient, professional atmosphere.

This office has been designed and executed by global firm IA Interior Architects in collaboration with San Francisco-based Lundberg Design. While Lundberg Design took the lead on the front office area and dining facilities, IA Interior Architects led the overall planning, layout, and design for the rest of the project, with responsibility for construction documents and administration.

The first look
The lobby of the headquarters is pleasantly designed, with soothing ambience lights that spread into the reception area. The company´s logo, the little bird, is fixed on the wooden panel of the reception desk. Moreover, the exposed high ceilings are a refreshing change from the usual office spaces, rendering a fun and raw ´foresty´ look.

Work and play
The work space, bright, open and creatively designed, is perfect for the company´s peppy and passionate staff. The Twitter logo, the signature blue and the twig motif are frequently encountered around the head¡quarters. Once a vast open space, the room now houses several white workstations, informal seating areas, conference rooms, pantries, banquettes and lounge areas. Art by local artists also adorns the walls. Seeming to agree wholeheartedly that ´all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy´, the designers have provided a yoga studio, a fitness room and two game rooms within the headquarters. Donning a mix of blue, green, orange and grey shades, this floor ensures a restful environment where an employee can sit back, relax and work in peace.

Brainstorming bastions
The two conference rooms are a perfect fusion of simplicity, elegance and funk. The first one evokes a serious atmosphere with the wooden conference table and brown panels, while the other room reflects the creative side of the organisation with cool shades of blue and white. The blue wall opposite the conference table, on which different fonts of the letter ´T´ are affixed, is indicative of the various creative discussions and brainstorming sessions that have taken place in the past, with more to come in the future.

Snack time
An enormous cafeteria and a gathering space known as the ´Commons´ spills into an open park-like roof garden spread across half an acre, from where one gets impressive views of the skyline. It is the perfect place to hang out by the day and a dramatic venue for night-time events. The open area seating also spreads into a landscaped garden, providing employees a verdant spot to relax in.

With all these options for work and play, one would think that Twitter has covered it all; there is more to come, though. A retail area has been planned for the street level, with cafes, restaurants, a health club, and a grocery store. Did someone just say #awesome?
