Renzo Piano´s ´city gate´ project is almost completed in the Maltese capital of Valletta. The aim is to reinstate and renovate the original historical features of the existing site and add a new parliament building and open-air theater. With this architecture as a backdrop, extensive landscaping has been put in place. The architecture is characterized by the sand colored stone where Piano has subtly established old with the new through the combination of textures displayed. Majority of the main façade has been sculpted with a numerically controlled machine. Staying away from ostentatious decoration, it instead focuses on reviving the original heritage of this significant part of the city.
