Ideco Istanbul showcased the best of Turkish design with a strong European influence.
From March 3rd to 6th, the Turkish design fraternity assembled under one roof for ideco Istanbul, a furniture, furnishing and design fair hosted by CNR Expo. The fair showcased the various facets of the industry under one roof. Prominent players included Stone Concept, whose variety of stone textured panels left visitors spellbound, Knotisse, the carpet and kilims company known for its vintage Anatolian kilims, Antik Silver, the manufacturer of Turkey's famous sterling silver products, Erbey, producers of gorgeous acrylic separators in a variety of colours and designs, Alaman & Ouvar Kagioi, dealers in wallpapers and funky furniture, Avrasya, a curtains systems company and Blancherie, manufacturers of exclusive lace furnishings. However, the highlight of the fair were the stalls put up by designers like Atelier from Lebanon, Kucuk, a fairly new design practice that had some funky furniture concepts, Masa, a Turkish firm that specialises in product and space design and Design Turkey. The fair also held seminars on various subjects, which was attended by architects and designers.
Thronged by visitors that comprised mostly of design professionals and design students, ideco Istanbul was a fantastic showcase of Turkey's emerging status as a serious new design destination.
