The fenestration fare

Saket Jain, Business Head, Fenesta speaks about trends in the Indian fenestration industry and the brand´s offerings.

Throw some light on the window and fenestration industry in India.

Fenestration has undergone a drastic revamp all over the world, and the trends are fast catching up in India as well. Apart from wood and aluminum, windows are now available in alternate technological configurations such as UPVC.

The rising demand for energy efficient building and aspiration levels have led to innovations in the quality, design and texture of the windows. Windows are sup¡posed to allow natural light, keep out heat or cold and noise as well as be aesthetically attractive. Lower maintenance and energy efficient materials are also important aspects.

UPVC or Un-plasticised PolyVinyl Chloride frames take into account expansion of doors and windows in summers, erosion during the monsoons and exposure to UV radiation. UPVC is low-maintenance, comes in a wide range of colours and does not require painting.

UPVC frames in conjunction with stainless steel hardware have become the ideal long-term framing option to withstand adverse environment factors like coastline, high-speed wind and UV radiation. The market share of UPVC in Europe is more than 50 per cent whereas in China it is close to 40 per cent.

What makes Fenesta windows ´Smart´?
Fenesta windows can instantly transform a home. UPVC windows are available in a variety of white and foil colours and a wide range of designs. The Composite doors, Lift and Slide, Slide and Fold and Villa series (with bug mesh and grill option) are some of the latest designs.

Fenesta has recently introduced two UPVC products to face the challenges of Indian weather - ´Hurricane Bar´ that can withstand 245 kmph winds and a ´Rain Track´ that prevents the entry of rainwater even in torrential rains. Expert sealing reduces dust ingress and keeps pollution out.

Fenesta has set the standard in weather resistance, surface finish, stress, dimensional tolerances, UV stability, weld strength, wind load, air filtration, water penetration and ease of operation. BSI (UK) has certified that Fenesta conforms to European standard 12608.

All Fenesta products are 100 per cent customised, are delivered to the doorstep and installed within the deadline specified in the contract.

Fenesta windows are green as the thermal conductivity of UPVC is much lower than aluminium, and they have lesser noise penetration, thus saving up to 20 to 25 per cent electricity. Besides this, Fenesta windows are made of UPVC which consumes less energy during manufacturing and unlike wood, does not lead to deforestation These windows use low emitting materials (adhesives, sealants, paints and coatings) while the silicone sealants have nil VOC content and are safe to use.

How do they help in saving energy costs for the home?
UPVC is a poor conductor of heat. Fenesta windows don´t let the outside heat come in easily and the airtight sealing of Fenesta windows prevents cold air from escaping. Double glazed Fenesta windows can also be fitted for better insulation.

What is the investment for these smart windows?
All Fenesta products are customised and the price depends upon the choice of colours and materials.

The cost contribution of windows to a home is approximately 2-5 per cent, subject to individual home owners or project customers as well as designs and specifications opted for by the customer.

Having worked on several renowned projects including the only platinum rated green building in NCR - Mahindra Chloris, Fenesta´s expertise in the field is unparalleled.
