Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava recently presented his concept and design of a tunnel-and-bridge sea link in Qatar. The 12-km long proposal consists of three bridges and is connected by multi-lane subsea tunnels. The tunnels will provide an expressway of three lanes in each direction between Doha's Hamad International Airport and West Bay; and two lanes each way between West Bay and Lusail. Designed with environmental concerns kept in mind, the link will not only improve transport facilities in the city, it will also be a globally recognised infrastructure landmark.
