First word

The hospitality industry in India is booming, and international brands like Starwood as well as Indian stalwarts like the Taj and Oberoi have risen to the occasion, with multiple offerings. Besides the giants, small scale, boutique and unbranded hotels have sprung up as well, carving a cosy niche for themselves. One such fantastic hotel is D Caves, designed by Sanjay Puri Architects. Located in Hyderabad, the hotel stands on a one-acre site with existing 50 ft high boulders right in the centre. Retaining these boulders, Puri has designed spaces around them, in turn creating rooms with panoramic views.

In a maturing hospitality industry, luxury is slowly becoming synonymous with technology. Showcasing this is Yotel, a tech-savvy, funky looking hotel in Manhattan, designed by David Rockwell. With round beds that rotate to adjust the view, kitchen counters that instantly become pool tables, luggage robots that take charge of the luggage, it's an incredible use
of technology!

Techno-savvy homes follow this trend, showcased in the Sanghavi home designed by Mumbai-based designer Paresh Brahmbhatt. Along with an extensive use of material and texture, the home comes with an Apple-compliant, centralised music system, mood lighting, intelligent air conditioners that filter odour and adjust temperature; it truly defines high tech luxury.

To celebrate the festive season, we bring you some fantastic restaurants. Bene at Sheraton Bangalore, designed by Hong Kong-based architects, Simon Zeng and Jose Olivares, offers a warm décor, spectacular views and a wide array of seating arrangements, while the new Urban Café in New Delhi has a fusion look combining techno funk elements with nineteenth century décor elements.

Breaking the stereotype, check out the office designed by Spaces Architects for a law firm. A definite break from convention! Our feature on natural stones and tiles is a visual treat, while the conversation with landscape architect Kishore Pradhan is stimulating.

Here's wishing you a joyous, safe, and Happy Diwali from the entire team at CW Interiors!
