Hard Facts

CW Interiors digs deep to find out what the hardware industry in India has to offer.
The hardware market in India has grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years and the growth in the glass industry has further boosted this growth. German Brands like HSfele and Hettich are currently the most popular amongst users. These brands offer some path breaking products that not just improve the experience of using the furniture, but also amplify the its functionality. Other brands like Neki, Marsun and Kich are also innovating constantly to provide customers with cutting edge designs that enhance the use of dTcor elements where these hardware fittings are used. Most hardware companies emp¡hasise on two major aspects to enhance the user experience: Convenience and space maximisation.

Creating convenience
Ease of use, minimum effort and flawless movement is what most people look for in their hardware. To meet these demands, Marsun has introduced the ´Pull Down Unit System´ that adds a large dose of convenience in kitchens. With this system, one can lift, fold or easily roll the kitchen cabinet shutter up and away. The motion is silent and smooth and very convenient to use. This system costs approximately Rs 18-20,000. Even their shutter stay systems make lifting of shutters on wall cabinets extremely convenient. The best thing about them is that they are easy to assemble and come in a large range depending on the weight and size of the shutter.

HSfele´s Clip-top Blumotion hinge opens up so many more design possibilities for doors. This hinge enhances the open and close motion and thicker doors can be opened collision-free thanks to the revised pivoting point. For small doors, the Blumotion function can be easily deactivated via a switch on the hinge boss. HSfele also offers the Flap-stay system that is meant for overhead cabinets. This system helps in operating the system with less or no effort and provides an opening angle of 75, 90 or 110 degrees. It is ideal for both left and right-hand use. The flap locks in any position and it stops in end position when released by slight pressure. You can open flaps with this fitting with just a gentle push!

HSfele has introduced the Tavoflex swing-up table top fittings that allow furniture to multitask, or the same space to be used for a variety of purposes. On a coffee table, the fitting raises the table top and swivels it sideways, enabling easy access in a seated position to the storage space beneath. The table top can be lifted easily to act as a study table or a laptop station. The fitting not only provides smooth movements due to the synchronising rods but also has the integrated soft closing mechanism for gentle and silent closing. The Tavoflex also has a safety catch that prevents un-intentional or sudden closing of the table, thus avoiding accidental jamming of fingers.

Neki was reportedly the first brand in the country to introduce handrails and balustrades in knock-down systems, which help in achieving flexibility and good finished products. These systems can be used in interiors and exteriors as they use corrosion-resistant high grade AISI 316 stainless steel. With the option to custom-design, these applications can be used on staircase railings as well as simple railings for atrium, balcony and staircase landing.

Handle-less furniture system
Hafele combines style and functionality into one fitting by introducing handle-less fitting systems that can be used in kitchens or on other furniture. Its Tip-on range for doors by Blum offers a mechanical opening support system to make handle-less furniture that can be opened with just a light touch. The doors are designed to swing open to a comfortable opening angle so that the handle-less front can be grasped and opened easily. Regardless of whether the door is made from wood, glass or metal, Tip-on can be used throughout the entire home. Tip-on features secure closing, promises high quality and durability. A similar product is especially designed for kitchens and is called Tip-on for Aventos HK.
