First Word

"The nation's reverence of the L'il Master was an ode to excellence. Excellence in the sport, coupled with an amazing attitude, had the nation saluting him in his final hour of the game. It's excellence and mastery that elicit reverence of this kind.....

For a year fraught with economic challenges, projects abound, and as one architect put it, "It's when the going is tough that clients look for excellence (in architecture) to execute projects, to satisfy the even-more discerning customer."

For the final issue of 2013 we have some excellent stories lined up. For contemporary design lovers, the home in Bengaluru designed by FADD Studio - on a white canvas with simple yet stylish accents and slick lighting enthrals; and the Marriott Hotel, also in Bengaluru designed by Singapore-based HBA Consultants redefines business travel and creates splendour by fusing local concepts in contemporary design elements. For heritage design lovers the Indana Palace in Jodhpur harks back to the 16th century by recreating the palace architecture of the era.

For admirers of inspirational art, the corporate office of Le Sutra Hotel designed by Dr Art + Design in Mumbai inspires both employees and visitors with the extensive use of graphic art on walls; while Swish design aficionados will savour Sanjay Puri's design for Auriga, a swanky new restaurant and lounge opened in Mumbai with its sculptural design and fluid interiors. And sports enthusiasts can read about architecture for sports facilities in our exclusive interaction with Delhi-based Architect Manish Gulati of M:OFA.

We also bring to you glimpses of the CW INTERIORS Round Table on Modern Workspaces held last month. As we wrap up this year, architects share their inspiring New Year resolutions with us. An excellent way to start the new year don't you think?
